theology for a missionary church
some questions for discussion
Why do you think a God of mission has given us the Church? (Bible
suggestion: Acts 2.43 47.)
Where can you see the God of mission already at work in your own
context, and in what ways does your local church need to catch up
with what God is doing?
List the ways in which your church can be identified as one, holy,
catholic and apostolic. Are some of these attributes of the Church
more prominent than others? What more could you do to show
people outside the Church that these marks are what God calls the
Church to be?
This chapter says that `Jesus belonged to his own culture, yet was
prophetically critical of it'. What do you think the role of prophetic
criticism has in today's Church and how can it become part of your
mission strategy? What role can a prophetic ministry have in your
own fresh expressions of church?
This chapter quotes Tim Dearborn, `It is not the Church of God that
has a mission in the world, but the God of mission who has a Church
in the world.'
In what ways do we practise obedience to God's will
and are our mission strategies ever in danger of getting God to
validate what we think is right? In what ways do we make sure we
are listening to God?
